The point of a filing cabinet is to make finding and storing your documents easier. Separate your papers into different categories. Depending on your needs, this might be bills that can be classified further, legal matters, personal correspondence, insurance policies, health records, home business, academia and creative endeavors. For each category, get a hanging folder and use a label maker to clearly print what the folder contains. This will also allow you to recycle folders, because you can print a label for a new category if you no longer have any use for the existing category.
